Learn Self-Defense from the Best Instructors in the Area
At Checkmat Murrieta Exclusive, we want all our clients to feel 100% comfortable at all times – that’s why we offer women-only classes for those who prefer of all ages and abilities. We are determined to show all women just how fantastic this martial art is both physically and mentally. Unlike other martial arts, this type of jiu-jitsu is not about aggressively punching and kicking, or using your weight to overpower your opponent. Rather, it uses smooth and graceful motions and intricate techniques to gain the upper hand against anyone who may come up against you. Brazilian jiu-jitsu teaches essential self-defense moves, builds your confidence, and helps you reach your fitness goals all at once. You want to feel safe, and we want to help that happen. Our classes are in place so all women can feel comfortable running drills, grappling, and rolling with other women. There are a number of reasons why some women prefer to train in an all-female environment, and when you train with Checkmat Murrieta Exclusive – there is no explanation needed. Just sign up, start your training and have fun learning in an environment that you can learn and excel in comfortably. All our instructors are highly qualified and experienced in this field so you can be sure that you will be learning from the best there is. We guarantee that when you get involved in our classes, you’ll quickly build up your confidence, your fitness levels, your strength, and even improve your mental well-being. Although it might be obvious for us to say, we can’t recommend Brazilain jiu-jitsu enough as it affords everyone the opportunity to join a passionate community, improve their quality of life, and meet fantastic people along the way.

3 easy steps
During the first part of the class, you will run through the warm-up, including stretching, core work, and movement drills. After this part, the instructor(s) will then demonstrate the technique of the day. After the demonstration, you will be partnered with another student in the class so you can drill this technique. For the last part of the class, you will take part in ‘“rolling,” this is the time for grappling, also known as sparring. But, if you don’t feel ready, you don’t have to take part in the rolling on your first day. For the class, you will usually be partnered up with a student who is more experienced than you so that you have someone to help guide you through the rolling process.
Yes, absolutely! Jiu-Jitsu is not only a fantastic choice for your overall mental and physical fitness, but it’s also a great way to help you learn about self-defense and feel a sense of community and belonging – all of which are lacking in a lot of other sports and exercise classes. Learning and improving your self-defensive skills is always important, especially as a woman; you will be outdone in both size and strength by most “opponents.” Still, jiu-jitsu is the perfect way to train specific techniques and methods to fill that gap, giving you the upper hand no matter your size.
As well as being a top self-defense option, the jiu-jitsu community as a whole is spread far and wide and continually growing. This community is a place for people to share their passion, help each other train, and support their classmates. You’ll also find that, unlike other martial arts, jiu-jitsu is not about overly aggressive attack methods – you won’t need to be kicking or punching people with the goal to knock them out. Rather, jiu-jitsu is a far more smooth and fluid martial art, being graceful instead of aggressive, which is a great way to challenge you mentally and physically.
As a company, we are actively trying to change the unbalanced ratio of men to women in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, with the number of men far outweighing women in this sport. To help encourage more women to participate and restore some balance, we offer a 10% discount to all female-identifying individuals on all commitment memberships.
Yes! Like with all sports or martial arts, training and consistency is the key. So, regardless of your child’s strength, size, or even coordination, with consistency, they can easily excel in jiu-jitsu. Taking part in and training in American jiu-jitsu is a fun, interactive, and highly engaging activity that your little ones and older ones will love! We work with kids ranging from age 4 to age 15, and they all love the training in equal measure and work hard at improving their reflexes, balance, flexibility, and coordination.
As well as the physical benefits, your kid(s) can also benefit from other sight-after traits that come with martial arts, such as patience, resilience, discipline, work ethic, and a great self-esteem boost. Our kids’ curriculum, created by one of our many expert coaches, places extra emphasis on rewards for effort and engagement and never utilizes negative points or punishments.
No, we have no age limit for our AJJ classes! We have all ages from 4 years old all the way up to 70 years old. Our classes are catered to the age group, so we have something to suit everyone.

Training jiu-jitsu is not about proving your ability, it’s not about being best in class, and it’s certainly not about using your strength to dominate other students – we will ask you to leave if you engage in any of this type of behavior.
For your first class, it’s always a good idea to arrive fifteen minutes early if possible, so you have enough time to meet your trainer and other staff, sign a waiver, and get settled in with our space. We recommend wearing comfortable exercise clothes and comfortable footwear that is easy to take on and off – sandals are a popular option. Don’t forget to bring your gi, or you can rent/buy one from us if you don’t have one yet. For a no-gi class, a rashguard and shorts should be worn. We also have a filtered water station, but you should also bring your own water bottle that you can refill.
